Introduction

Practicing the major scale over and over again may seem like it's a waste of time and serves no useful purpose, but nothing could be further from the truth.

In this section we'll be elaborating on the major scale and we'll see how to create lines, change the basic structure to go into the dominant scale and melodic minor scale and we're going to cover harmonic movement.

The better you know where the roots are, where the notes of the triads are, how each position connects to the next, the more you'll get out of the guitar.

First we're going to go over chord progressions (aka harmonic movement) per position and see what that looks like.

Then we're going to go from the major scale into other modes.

And finally we're going to apply Barry Harris' approach and go full bebop.

Even though some of the fingerings may seem awkward, we're going to strictly adhere to the positions.

We're studying and ingraining the possibilities of the fretboard, as well as imprinting a structure on it.

Once you go into "free play" you'll be able to jump around however you want, without losing overview.

Restrictions and discipline in practice, create freedom in play (or something like that).
